Battery Don'ts

Battery Do's
  1. Keep caps on all cells & tight while operating, charging and washing.
  2. Check water levels daily until water use pattern is established.
  3. Keep water level above plates, but no more then to bottom of vent well.
  4. Add water, if necessary, after the battery is fully charged.
  5. Check that charger is operating after hook-up to the battery.
  6. Give battery an equalizing charge at least once a week.
  7. Take periodic hydrometer readings of each cell, 1.275 full - 1.150 dead.
  8. Keep battery clean.  It should we washed off at least once a week and wiped dry.  Use battery cleaner or baking soda.
  9. Keep battery snug, but not tight in its compartment on truck.
  10. Use proper equipment in changing and handling; batteries are heavy.
  11. Wash hands after working on or around your battery.
Battery Don'ts
  1. Don't smoke in charging area.
  2. Don't disconnect battery from charger while charging is operating.  ALWAYS SHUT OFF CHARGER FIRST.
  3. Don't overfill battery cells.
  4. Don't discharge more than 80% or below specific gravity of 1.160.
  5. Don't leave battery cover in closed position during recharge.
  6. Don't allow discharge battery to sit for long periods before recharging.
  7. Don't hook up battery to any charger except the one designated for it.
